City Council member bikes to work in honor of National Bike to Work Week

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — In the spirit of May 16-22 being National Bike to Work Week, council member LeAnna Gutierrez Cumber announces her intention to bike to work every day this week.

Cumber has spearheaded transportation initiatives in Jacksonville, including establishing a first-of-its-kind pilot program to paint bike lanes green in her district as a way to improve a city that consistently ranks among the most dangerous in America for pedestrians and bicyclists.

She has also helped establish a permitting process for dockless mobility vehicles that include e-scooters and e-bicycles.

Cumber serves as a member of the Rules Committee and the Transportation, Energy & Utilities Committee on the Jacksonville City Council.

Council Vice President At-Large Terrance Freeman filed his bill to make Cumber’s scooter pilot program permanent.

In 2002, Cumber began a career in transportation and homeland security in Washington, D.C.

Cumber also previously worked in the U.S. Senate and the U.S. Department of Transportation.

Since 2010, Cumber has been a consultant representing states, cities, seaports, railroads and others regarding transportation policies.
