A day at St. Augustine Beach could soon cost local families and visitors.
City leaders are pushing for paid parking in 300 spots on streets and public lots.
City Manager Max Royle told Action News Jax St. Johns County is considering charging for parking at the pier.
He said the proposal is an attempt to prevent drivers from flooding St. Augustine Beach streets.
If the current plan passes, visitors would be charged $2.50 per hour, St. Augustine residents $1.25 per hour and city residents 50 cents per hour.

Joseph Firrantello, who lives in St. Augustine Beach said, “I would rather they don’t do it. It’s convenient, but also I think it’s the way things are going.”
Some are concerned the change will push traffic to other areas of the county.
Marilyn Carter said, “The streets are going to be mobbed with people looking for nonpaid parking spots.”
City leaders said they’re working with the company Passport to create an app so drivers can pay with their phone.
A special meeting on the proposal is scheduled for Jan. 8.
