Police: Suspect in custody after car chase, crash in Clay County

Clay County Sheriff's Office deputies are on the scene of an active investigation in Orange Park where an overturned vehicle flipped over and caught on fire.

The suspect was being chased by deputies in a Honda Odyssey after the van hit a deputy and fled.

During the pursuit the van left the roadway, hit a tree and overturned.

The driver fled the scene of the crash and was chased by deputies on foot, according to CCSO.

The suspect, 20-year-old Matthew Scott of Orange Park, was apprehended and has serious injuries from the crash.

19-year-old Alexis Parker was a passenger in the van and also obtained serious injuries.

Scott is being charged with reckless driving with serious bodily injury and leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury.

CCSO said the scene is active and more information will be released as soon as it becomes available.
