Clay Electric power outages “a problem that doesn’t seem to be getting a solution,” homeowner says

FLEMMING ISLAND, Fla. —

Friday, Clay County homeowner Michael Vincent told Action News Jax he had experienced power outages two days in a row.

On Thursday, Action News Jax reported that a Clay Electric outage left 24,000 customers in the dark.

The next day, 28,000 woke up in the same situation.

Students at eight Clay County schools showed up find to the problem on campuses.

Vincent said, “It’s just a problem that doesn’t seem to be getting a solution.”

He explained living without power is frustrating, but not getting any answers is even more upsetting.

“All you get is sitting there on the phone on hold for hours,” Vincent said of his calls to Clay Electric.

Action News Jax Reporter Beth Rousseau called the company for answers.

A spokesperson said two bad insulators that were misdiagnosed Thursday caused both of the massive outages.

According to the company, there has been an increase in brief outages in some areas of their system.

The spokesperson said they’re investigating the issue.

“All we want is power. You can’t do anything without it,” said Vincent.

Clay Electric leaders said they have staff answering phone calls.

They explained if customers don’t get an answer, especially during large outages, it’s because of flooded phone lines.
