Power restored to all Clay County residents

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — 10:47 a.m. UPDATE: Clay Electric says power has been restored to all Clay County residents.

“Clay Electric personnel will have to switch some members back to their normal feed throughout the day that may create short interruptions,” the company said in a Facebook post.

10:24 a.m. UPDATE: Power has been restored to all Clay County schools.

9:22 a.m. UPDATE: Action News Jax has learned there are several Clay County schools that are also without power:

  • Fleming Island High School
  • Fleming Island Elementary School
  • Paterson Elementary School
  • Thunderbolt Elementary School
  • Swimming Pen Creek Elementary School
  • Doctors Inlet Elementary School
  • Lake Asbury Junior High School
  • Montclair Elementary School

Power is expected to be restored in about an hour. If the power isn’t restored, the schools will discuss plans about early dismissal.

7:44 a.m. UPDATE: Clay Electric says it will take at least six to eight hours to repair the issue that has left thousands of residents in Clay County without power.

The company shared the following message on its Facebook page:

“Our personnel have found the cause of the outage affecting approximately 28,000 members in Clay County, unfortunately it will take 6-8 hours to make the repairs necessary to restore power to everyone. Clay Electric personnel will be working in the interim to restore power to some affected services by rerouting power where possible. All available personnel are working as quickly as possible to restore power. We apologize for the inconvenience of this outage."

There is a large power outage in the Fleming Island area.

According to the Clay Electric outage map, nearly 23,000 households in the area are without power. Action News Jax is working to learn the cause of the outage and estimated restoration time.

Deputies say the traffic lights at US 17 and Country Road 220 are out as a result of the outage.

Drivers are asked to use caution when driving through that area.
