Company that manages Orange Park Mall files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — The company that manages and leases the Orange Park Mall filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy on Sunday.

Citing challenges created due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Washington Prime Group, who owns the mall, said it felt the filing was necessary to reduce its outstanding debt.

The company owns several properties across the country, including 13 shopping malls and plazas in Florida.

“Throughout the restructuring process, the Company remains committed to serving as a preeminent operator of retail town centers and will continue to serve its guests. Importantly, the Company will continue to prioritize the health and safety of our guests, retailers, employees and communities,” Washington Prime Group released in an online statement.

The company says it was able to secure $100 million from consenting creditors so that its businesses can continue with day-to-day operations without interruption during the bankruptcy process.

The shopping mall has been a staple in the Clay County community for decades and is a place for moviegoers, as it has an AMC theater on its grounds.
