A 50-year-old Green Cove Springs woman died early Tuesday following a single-car crash on Russell Road.
At 4:17 a.m., the Florida Highway Patrol said a woman was driving on Russell Road near the intersection of Hands Drive, when troopers said she drove into a marked construction area, hitting several construction barrels and struck the back of a large excavator.
Troopers said she died at the scene.
She was wearing a seat belt, according to the FHP report.
