Toddler dies, brother and mother injured, in fiery Thanksgiving Day crash in Columbia County

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol reported that a 4-year-old girl died in a crash Thursday night on Interstate 10.

According to the crash report, at around 7:41 p.m., two sedans were traveling eastbound on I-10 in the left lane. One of the sedans merged right and tried to overtake the other sedan before merging left again.

The left side of the sedan merging left hit the front right side of the other sedan, causing the merging sedan to spin out into the median. It came to a rest after it hit a tree with its front and caught fire.

The 33-year-old driver, a 4-year-old girl and 8-year-old boy in the fiery sedan were rushed to an area hospital with serious injuries. The girl was pronounced deceased at the hospital. No injuries were reported for the occupants of the other car.

FHP said that the drivers and passengers of each car were from Jacksonville, Florida. In addition, everyone was wearing seatbelts.
