ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Coquina is the new name of the baby dolphin at Marineland Dolphin Adventure.
The park launched a social media campaign to name the dolphin, inviting people to its Facebook page to pick a name.
You voted and Coquina came out on top over Calypso, Shimmer and Stella.
Over 3,000 people participated in the contest. Coquina won with almost 40 percent of the total vote. Coquina is also the soft limestone rock consisting of shells and corals that is found around northeast Florida.
Coquina was born in May at Marineland Dolphin Adventure. The public is invited to visit Marineland Saturday, Sept. 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for Family Fun Day to meet Coquina and enjoy a day of family-friendly activities and entertainment with Marineland’s resident dolphins.
