Curfew issued for counties in Northeast Florida

As Category 4 Hurricane Matthew approaches Northeast Florida, counties are issuing curfews for the safety of residents.

Duval County 

Sheriff Mike Williams announced during a briefing Thursday that the beaches in Jacksonville are under curfew to keep people inside as Hurricane Matthew approaches Northeast Florida.

Glynn County

The Glynn County Board of Commissioners and the city of Brunswick have issued a curfew beginning at midnight to 5 a.m. Friday. The curfew will be in place Friday, Saturday and Sunday night and will end at 5 a.m. Monday.

During a curfew, no one is allowed to appear in public including streets, highways, alleys, sidewalks, vacant lots, parks and public buildings.The curfew does not include Jekyll Island.

St. Johns County

A curfew has been ordered for St. Augustine, St. Augustine Beach and parts of St. Johns County on Thursday.

St. Johns County law enforcement announced that the curfew will run from 8 p.m. Thursday to 6 a.m. Friday for the city of St. Augustine Beach, the city of St. Augustine and parts of St. Johns County lying east of the Intracoastal Waterway on the barrier islands.

The curfew will remain in effect nightly until further notice.

A curfew order mandates that anyone on the street must provide identification to law enforcement officers to verify their address and purpose for being in the area.

Flagler County

Flagler County commissioners issued a curfew for all areas in the county east of Interstate 95.

The curfew starts Thursday, running from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and will continue those hours daily until further notice.

Law enforcement officers will not hinder people from evacuating. But anyone caught loitering  will be charged with a misdemeanor.

All alcohol sales across Flagler County are suspended until the emergency declaration is lifted.
