Deputy arrested on suspicion of DUI in Alachua County

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — A deputy with the Alachua County Sheriff's Office is on administrative leave following his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The Sheriff's Office said one of its deputies saw a 2014 Toyota pickup truck on the sidewalk of West Newberry Road.  The deputy saw the driver leaning out the window, throwing up.  The deputy approached the driver and smelled a strong odor of alcohol.  The driver, according to the deputy, then tossed his keys into the back of the pickup truck.

The deputy advised his supervisor who called the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers arrested Deputy William Williams IV at 2:32 a.m. and booked him into the Alachua County Jail.

The Sheriff's Office will launch an internal investigation into the arrest.
