JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Twenty-five Duval County Public Schools seniors will begin year-long paid corporate internships following a Signing Day event held July 29. The program provides students from primarily underserved communities with professional roles within the Jacksonville workforce.
The event at the Jessie Ball duPont Center marked the end of eight weeks of training in business technology and professional skills. More than 100 students applied for the 25 available internship positions.
The interns will work part-time during the school year while continuing their studies. Each student is expected to complete more than 800 working hours by the end of the program. Students will also receive ongoing training and mentorship from their internship supervisors and program staff throughout the year.
Alexandra Rudnick, executive director of Genesys Works Jacksonville, noted that the program aims to provide students with experience before they enter the full-time job market.
“For these students, Signing Day is the moment opportunity becomes real,” Rudnick said. “At a time when young people are often expected to have experience before anyone gives them a first chance, these young professionals have earned the opportunity to show what they can do. They are ready to embark on a journey that will equip them with the skills and confidence to thrive in their careers, long after graduation next spring.”
Rudnick added that while talent is present throughout the community, opportunity is not always available. She characterized the program as an investment in a skilled workforce for the local economy.
Genesys Works Jacksonville launched in 2025 through a partnership with Duval County Public Schools. The program currently serves students from eight high schools and works with 10 local businesses and organizations.
Participating organizations include Baptist Health, Brooks Rehabilitation, Community First Credit Union, Mayo Clinic and Rogers Towers, P.A. In addition to the work placements, students receive coaching for college and career planning.
Data from the program’s first year showed that 55% of graduating interns planned to pursue postsecondary education. The remaining 45% of graduates entered the workforce directly after high school.
