COVID-19 HOMECOMING: Jacksonville native returns home after spending 7 months in hospital

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It was a Tuesday afternoon filled with anticipation, excitement and hope.

Jacksonville native Chuck Davis hasn’t been home in seven months.

“At times, we were going to lose him. It was just a miracle he’s here,” Chuck’s high school friend Patti Tebow said.

While battling COVID-19 in three different hospitals, Chuck spent more than five of those months on a ventilator.

“It has been very hard on everyone,” Chuck’s sister-in-law Darlene Joseph said. “It was very, very serious.”

Those days of worry are now behind him.

“He’s really excited to be able to come home,” Chuck’s brother Paul Davis said.

Soon enough, the ambulance arrived with Chuck inside but before he got out, the man driving the car announced to the crowd, “This man is a miracle.”

“It’s going to bring lots of tears today,” Tebow said.

As the ambulance doors opened, friends and family cheered as Chuck proudly raised his hand above his head.

Chuck was finally home.

“So happy you’re home, so happy he’s home,” Joseph said.

He was met by family and friends, trying hard to hold back tears but trying even harder to get to him and hold him close.

Even Chuck himself smiled for the camera and gave Action News Jax a special message.

“I just want to say this. God is good. God is good,” Chuck said.

It was a miracle on a Tuesday afternoon that ended in the family’s favorite Jacksonville Jaguar “Duval” cheer.
