Deck the Chairs begins Saturday in Jacksonville Beach

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. — A holiday tradition is returning to Jacksonville Beach this weekend with a few changes in place because of COVID-19.

Deck the Chairs, a free exhibit showcasing lights, music, a 100-foot glowing Octopus and more than forty decorated lifeguard chairs, will begin Saturday.

The Seawalk and Latham Plaza public park in downtown Jacksonville Beach, where the chairs are located, will be filled with lights every night from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. from Nov. 21 and will run through Jan. 1, 2021.

The safety measures in place this year will include spacing between the chairs and new hand sanitizer stations in the area.

“The Covid pandemic has taken its toll on our Beaches community. Business has been especially hit hard. Our hope is that the lights and free display will once again bring people into the Seawalk Pavilion and Latham Plaza park space, and that after visiting with us, they spend time and money with our friends in the service sector,” Kurtis Loftus, Founder of Deck The Chairs, said.
