Family of murdered father begs for answers five months later

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The family of a Jacksonville father murdered in a triple shooting is begging for answers to find his killer.

It’s been more than five months since Maurice Anderson, a father of three, was shot and killed at a home on Mansion Road.

Kim Anderson said her life was turned upside down Oct. 28, 2020.

“They took everything from me,” Kim Anderson said. “We want the person that took his life to know the impact they have caused on this family and his kids.”

His family celebrated what would’ve been his 34th birthday in March at the cemetery where he’s buried.

This Saturday, the family and MAD DADS will canvas the neighborhood where the father was killed. The plan is to meet in the 2900 block of Mansion Road at 11 a.m. Everyone attending is encouraged to wear a mask.

Kim Anderson said they’ve already handed out 2,000 flyers in the neighborhood.

“I’m going to continue to hit the pavement,” Anderson said. “I will not rest until someone is brought to justice.”

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office hasn’t announced any arrests in the case.

Anderson said she calls the detectives at least twice a week to ask for updates.

“They are following leads, but they can’t go in detail with us,” Anderson said.

Anderson said her son was at a friend’s house when he was killed.

“He walked in the house while his friend was being robbed,” Anderson said. “Wrong place at the wrong time.”

The two other victims survived the shooting.

The family is pleading with the community to speak up or for the suspect to come forward.

Anderson said she’ll find the strength to forgive her son’s killer if that person is brought to justice.

“I will come to the terms of forgiveness because I know that’s what God would want, and I know that’s what Maurice would’ve want,” Anderson said.
