JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — 1/2/2020 UPDATE: A Jacksonville man is dead following a wrong-way crash in Arlington on New Year’s Day.
Troopers said the crash happened at 9:50 p.m. on Arlington Expressway. According to a Florida Highway Patrol traffic report, Asea Hollingshed, 28, was driving a Volkswagen Passat westbound on Arlington Expressway, in the eastbound lane, and struck the front of a Ford Fusion, driving eastbound.
After the cars collided, the Ford rotated and struck another car in the outside eastbound lane. FHP said the driver of the Ford Fusion died. Troopers identified him as Zarell Crittenden, 27.
Hollingshed was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. The driver of the other car was not injured, FHP said. Read more here.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department is responding to a fatal crash on the Arlington Expressway before the Southside Connector.
JFRD said two people were trapped in two separate cars after the crash. Crews were able to pull one of them from the car and take them to a hospital with “serious injuries.”
JFRD tweeted that the accident was fatal before extracting the surviving passenger and transporting them to the hospital, so it’s likely that person died at the scene.
Drivers should avoid the area.
