JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Action News Jax has LIVE updates on this story on FOX30 & CBS47
A home on Galveston Avenue in the Woodland Acres neighborhood is completely destroyed after a fire Wednesday morning.
Firefighters with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the fire around 2:17 a.m. It took about 40 firefighters and about 20 minutes to put out the flames.
JFRD said one person was taken to the hospital and is expected to be OK.
Action News Jax spoke with a neighbor who heard a loud “boom” noise and saw flames outside at the home.
Another neighbor, Joseph Cop, said he rushed over to help get his next door neighbors out because the fire was so intense.
“I was pounding on the door trying to get him out and that’s when he jumped out the back window. I heard, ’I broke my leg,’ so I went over there to drag him as far away as I could from the fire," Cop said.
Nieghbors and JFRD told Action News Jax the home is vacant. The State Fire Marshal left an arson sign at a fence in front of charred debris, the only thing left after the fire.
