Drivers all told Action News Jax they hate the way gas prices continue to rise and wonder if we’re close to hitting $5 a gallon.

“They are going to keep the price high until they can make all the money they need to make,” says Aaron Floyd.

Floyd says the high price of gas has made him think twice every time he gets behind the wheel.

“I don’t drive unnecessarily now. I realize that gas prices are high so I’m not going on any long road trips,” says Floyd.

AAA says the national average for unleaded gas is $4.91 a gallon.

In Florida, the average price per gallon is $4.71, and Jacksonville sits at $4.75 a gallon.

Even Governor Ron DeSantis is weighing in on when we might hit $5 a gallon.

“I think oil can reach over 120 a barrel for the sweet crude. You could very well end up with oil at 150 plus dollars a barrel. That translates to well over 5 dollars a gallon,” says DeSantis.

Floyd says he’s trying to take the price hike in stride.

“It won’t kill me, it won’t kill everyone else in America either, because that‘s the price, but we can make it.”

Paulette Sergel says she remembers paying $2 a gallon, and right now the prices are draining her pockets.

“Some people maybe don’t work it’s just a lot of money for everybody. A maybe for some people who do work it’s probably hurting them too,” says Sergel.
