It’s a war zone: Surveillance video show violent weekend in Arlington

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Action News Jax obtained exclusive video of what started off a violent weekend in Arlington.

“Boys and girls wake up, it’s a war zone out here,” said a neighbor who asked not to be identified.

JSO says after 3 p.m. Saturday, officers were called to Justina Road after a man in his 30’s was shot in the leg while sitting at a bus stop.

In surveillance video you can see what appears to be a red GMC drive through a parking lot before approaching a group of men waiting at a bus stop.

Moments later two of them can be seen running away after shots were fired while another ended up falling to the ground after getting shot.

But that’s not all JSO says five hours later officers had to circle back around to Justina Road after a woman was shot.

One neighbor told Action News Jax reporter Jamarlo Phillips the woman was her best friend.

“She is doing OK, she is surviving, she’s got Jesus in her, God is with her,” she explained.

She says her neighborhood is a war zone and feels it is no longer a safe place for children.

“It has just come to where people are scared to let their children outside anymore, people are scared to sit on their porches anymore,” she added.

A shopping center and the Grasp Academy sits near where both shootings happened.

JSO crime mapping data base show since Jan. 1, 2020, there have been 81 reports of crime in the area.

Some of those crimes range from assault, burglary and vandalism.

Neighbors are trying to understand what can be done to keep their neighborhood safe.

“I don’t understand it, maybe they need to get some Jesus in them I don’t know,” she said.

JSO says both shootings are being investigated.

The victims are expected to be OK.

Action News Jax is working to learn if the shootings are connected.
