JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A typical day at Medtown Pharmacy usually involves two people working in the back, but now, it’s all hands on deck. Owner Chen Oeur says COVID-19 cases have skyrocketed following the Fourth of July.
“We roughly test almost 100 patients a day,” Oeur said.
He says the rapid test, which promises results in just 20 minutes, is the most requested.
But if you hop online to book an appointment at many of Jacksonville’s testing sites, you’ll find that many slots aren’t available for several days.
Oeur says appointments are also booked up because churches and small businesses are scheduling bulk testing for their employees and members.
But Oeur says there is a workaround. Try calling the pharmacy; they’ll usually be able to squeeze you in if you can head over right away.
“Online booking is completely full, but we accommodate every single patient that walks in here,” Oeur said. “We want to make sure that our community is safe, and the best way to do it is make the accommodation, test them when they need it.”

Oeur’s goal is to serve as many people as his pharmacy can.
“Prior to this, pharmacists were overlooked as first responders, and I’m just glad that I’m in a position to help our community,” he added.
Like many, Oeur just wants the pandemic to be over.
