JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It’s been more than a year since Richard Wilson, Jr. was killed by a hit-and-run driver in North Jacksonville. His family reached out to Action News Jax in hopes of getting answers about his killer.
Florida Highway Patrol reported that a pedestrian was killed in hit-and-run crash on February 8, 2019 at about 11:40 p.m. on North Main Street and Kirkland Road. Troopers found 35-year-old Richard Wilson Jr. dead at the scene.
“It’s hard, it’s heartbreaking,” Wilson’s Uncle, Alton Wilson said. “No one wants to lose a family member, especially someone hits him and leaves him on the side of the road and doesn’t stop to help. What kind of human does that? We want justice, we want something done.”
Shortly after the crash, troopers found a blue Ford F150 truck near the scene that they believe is the vehicle that hit Wilson. However, the driver was no where to be found. To this day, the driver has not been identified.

“We can never get my nephew back, it’s just a fact,” Alton Wilson said. “And this person is allowed to run the streets and live life and go out to diner and everything, and that’s not right.”
Action News Jax reached out to FHP about this investigation. The public information officer said there are no updates to release at this time and charges are pending.
Alton Wilson said his family is frustrated with no arrests and wants justice for his nephew.
“Why are we taking 13 months and allow this person maybe to do it again, Wilson said. “Another family will have to go through the same thing.”
In 2019, FHP reported 7,439 hit-and-run cases in Duval County. As of February 2020, 169 of those are still not solved.
