The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to a charter school on Monday after some students came into contact with “seasonal bugs” near the playground, the school said in a post on its Facebook page.
BridgePrep Academy of Duval, which is on Atlantic Boulevard near University Boulevard South, said it closed the playground area and notified parents whose children were affected by the bugs.

JFRD told Action News Jax’s Nick Gibson that it is not yet known what type of bug bit 27 students and their teacher at the school.
Firefighters said the children were either bitten on their legs, torso area or arms.
Everyone who was affected was isolated in a wing of the school to receive care. JFRD said no one was taken to the hospital as a result of the bug bites.
