I-10 West reopens at Chaffee Road following semi crash, fuel leak in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — 5 p.m. Update: Action News Jax has received the Florida Highway Patrol crash report which says a 22-year-old woman and a 68-year-old man are both seriously injured after the crash on I-10 West and Chaffee Road.

The 22-year-old woman was traveling westbound on I-10 in a Hyundai Sonata when she switched lanes and collided with a Kia Sedona. She lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a semi-truck and a guardrail.

The collision with the Hyundai caused the 68-year-old man driving a semi-truck to lose control and overturn, spilling non-hazardous materials onto the roadway.

The 22-year-old driver and the 68-year-old driver were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Kia Sedona, a 37-year-old woman, was uninjured.

9:23 a.m. Update: Westbound lanes on I-10 at Chaffee Road have reopened following a semi crash and fuel leak. The off-ramp at I-10 East at the I-295 interchange remains closed following a separate crash.

Original Story:

Drivers should expect delays Tuesday morning following two crashes involving semi trucks miles apart on Interstate 10 on Jacksonville’s Westside.

Just before 6 a.m., crews with the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said a semi overturned on I-10 westbound just before Chaffee Road, causing a fuel leak.

A hazmat team was called out to the area to stop the leak. At 7:10 a.m., JFRD said crews were able to get the scene under control.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said all westbound lanes on I-10 at Chaffee Road are closed, as well as I-10 eastbound at Hammond Boulevard.

Another crash (pictured below) happened on I-10 East approaching the I-295 interchange in Jacksonville involving a different semi truck. The off-ramp is currently closed.

Drivers can take Hammond Boulevard to Normandy Boulevard to head to the beltway.
