JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A woman was shot while lying in her bed Sunday night, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Around 11:50 p.m. officers were called out to the Madelyn Oaks Apartments in the Hillcrest Neighborhood. The victim told police that she was alone in her apartment, lying in bed, when a bullet came through her bedroom window and hit her. She was able to call for help and was transported to the hospital.

At this time, police do not know if the victim was an intended target or if it was a stray bullet.
Several neighbors told Action News Jax Reporter Elizabeth Pace they heard people screaming in the parking lot of the complex Sunday evening, some described it as a couple arguing with each other.
“I heard screaming and a gunshot last night, but I wasn’t really paying attention,” Jacob Garner said.
Garner said he is new to Jacksonville and is already used to hearing gunshots outside of his apartment at Madelyn Oaks Apartments.
“There’s shootings out here like almost every day, you just hear random gunshots during the night, sometimes during the day,” Garner said.
