Landing joins list of vacant, undeveloped properties along Jacksonville riverfront

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Where the landing once stood, you’ll now find piles of rubble.

Action News Jax Sky Vision Drone flew over the demolition site and Downtown riverfront today.

The Landing’s buildings have all been demolished. Visitors like Damien Allen said possibilities are opening for the city’s future.

“It’s kind of the new meeting the old, and actually coming to the table with some worthwhile, something competitive,” said Allen.

With the Landing’s demolition, the Duval County Property Appraiser’s Office said there are now 19 total vacant properties on both sides of the riverfront, from the Fuller Warren Bridge to the Hart bridge.

Nine of those properties belong to the city. Allen said he’s eagerly anticipating what Downtown Jacksonville will look like in the future.

“It can only better the city, and for everyone,” he said. “You want a city where all the people can benefit, and not just the well-to-do people.”

Action News Jax asked the city if they are any new plans to develop the Landing site.

A mayor’s office spokesperson said there are no firm plans, but the property will be used for the Jazz Festival in May and possibly the Fourth of July.

“To see what they put here next, it will really compete with other port cities like Baltimore or Savannah, so it would really be good to see some new development,” said Allen.
