One killed in officer-involved shooting after SWAT standoff on Jacksonville’s Westside

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — In a recent incident at 5200 Timuquana Rd, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported that an officer-involved shooting occurred following a SWAT standoff involving suspect Paton John Pinette, a 26-year-old.

According to JSO, at 2:00 a.m. patrol officers responded to a business burglary at 4500 Lenox Avenue. The caller, who was the reported grandfather identified Pinette as the suspect, who had allegedly broken into a business, stole a revolver, fired shots, and then fled the scene.

Fast forward to 3:00 p.m., officers responded to another call at 5200 Timuquana Rd. A female victim reported that her neighbor had pointed a revolver at her and made threats. Officers proceeded to Pinette’s apartment in an attempt to make contact.

While trying to establish communication, Pinette allegedly fired at the officers at least twice. In response, the officers returned fire. The situation escalated, prompting the deployment of the SWAT team.

After negotiating with Pinette for several minutes, he emerged from his apartment armed with a revolver in one hand and a knife in the other. In what was described as an aggressive manner, Pinette attempted to lift the gun, leading SWAT officers to fire their weapons at the suspect. Pinette later died due to his injuries.

The State Attorney’s Office (SAO) is actively involved in the investigation, marking the 13th officer-involved shooting this year.

The suspect had allegedly made a threatening statement to the victim before the confrontation.

Details regarding the presence of drugs in the incident remain uncertain.

The identified officers involved in the incident are Officer R Samples, K Jarrell, and SWAT Officer J Price.
