Man shot and killed after fight in a drive-thru liquor store in Jacksonville, JSO says

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said one person has died following a shootout on Lane Avenue on Jacksonville’s Westside.

Around 2 a.m. Sunday, a fight broke out in the drive-thru of a liquor store near the 1500 block of Lane Ave., then a suspect opened fire on a car with three passengers inside, according to JSO. One of the three passengers was shot and killed.

When JSO responded to the shooting on Lane Avenue, officers were unable to locate any victims. However, Florida Highway Patrol pulled a car over for driving erratically on Collins Road near Interstate 295 Northbound, about eight miles from the liquor store.

Upon making contact with the car that was pulled over, the trooper found a male passenger suffering from a gunshot wound.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded and pronounced the passenger dead on the scene.

JSO said based on their investigation, it appears the victim’s car pulled out of the liquor store parking lot onto Lane Avenue when an unknown person’s car pulled up alongside them and began shooting.

The shooter then fled in an unknown direction, and the victim’s car was later stopped by FHP.

JSO said they have several witnesses that are currently being interviewed but do not have any information on the shooter at this time.
