Neighbors fed up with crime after young woman found dead inside Jacksonville southside apartment

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation into the death of a woman at a Southside Apartment complex Friday.

JSO says the woman’s roommate told officers he came home from work and found the apartment covered in blood.

That’s when the man called out to his girlfriend and roommate, but they didn’t answer.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a woman’s body and weapons they believe were used to kill her still inside.

Abigail Tolitsky and her cat are on the move.

She says her time spent at Green Tree Place apartments was cut short due to crime in her neighborhood.

“It keeps happening around here so I’m just trying to move away from it,” Tolitsky said.

Tolitsky says after her neighbor was murdered, she no longer feels safe in her own home.

“It sounded chaotic outside, but I was just, like, it’s Friday night, normal things are going on. But then I woke up the next morning and there were tape lines, police officers, a lot going on,” she said.

JSO says they believe the woman was killed during a struggle inside her apartment.

Officers were able to track down a man they call a “person of interest” in Downtown Jacksonville and he was taken into custody.

“It’s insane to have a relationship with someone, then come home to see that, it’s just sad. I just hope for the best for everybody and their families,” Tolitsky said.

Over the last month, there have been more than 200 reports of crime within a two-mile radius of the apartment complex.

Neighbors say they are left more worried without any announcements of arrests in this case.

JSO says the death has nothing to do with drugs or gangs, and that what led up to the death is still under investigation.

Action News Jax is still working to learn the name of the woman who died.
