Elderly man dies after lighting cigarette, using oxygen tank starts fire

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE 8:14 p.m. An elderly man has died after a house fire broke out on the 1500 block of Domas Drive according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

Crews arrived within four minutes of receiving a call and put out the flames in the area.

They found the man unresponsive inside.

He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

An investigation revealed that the fire started because the man had lit a cigarette at the same time as he was using his oxygen mask.

Crews have responded to the same area several times.
