Murray Hill Dunkin’ Donuts declared ‘unsafe structure’ after roof collapse

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two workers were inside a Dunkin'/Basking Robbins on Cassat Avenue when the roof collapsed, according to the fire marshal.

No one was seriously hurt but the building will soon be condemned.

Cracks on the walls are visible from the outside of the building.

The roof caved in Tuesday night during a rainstorm although it’s unclear if weather played a role.

The First Alert Weather team said five inches of rain came down during last night’s storm.

According to the fire marshal, the owner reported that the building was remodeled about 16 years ago and that included a new roof.

In a statement sent to Action News Jax, a spokesperson for Dunkin’ said:

“We are aware of the roof collapse at the Dunkin’ / Baskin-Robbins restaurant located at 741 Cassat Avenue in Jacksonville. The lobby was open during the time of the collapse and we are very thankful there were no employees or guests injured. The restaurant is closed while the franchisee, who owns and operates the restaurant, works with the local authorities determine the cause of this incident. The franchisee plans to re-open and we look forward to once again serving our loyal Jacksonville guests at this location.”

The building has been deemed unsafe and according to a city worker who was at the scene Wednesday, it will eventually be condemned.
