JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Duval school officials said Friday night they are finalizing “contingency plans” with another transportation provider as talks between Durham School Services and Teamsters remain stalled ahead of Monday’s start of school.
“While we continue to monitor the negotiations, Duval County Public Schools is also finalizing short-term contingency plans with alternate transportation providers to help minimize potential disruptions to students and families,” a statement from the school district said.
Teamsters Local 512, which represent 275 local bus drivers, earlier this week authorized a strike if it cannot reach a deal with Durham.
The district said the disruption could affect parents and children who reside in the Southside and Mandarin areas
“We understand that families are waiting for information about transportation for the first day of school,” the district release said. “We will continue to closely monitor the situation and provide an update as soon as additional information becomes possible.”
To check whether your child’s bus may be impacted, log in to Focus → select your child’s name → Child Info → Transportation.
If the provider is listed as “Durham Southside,” your child’s bus service may be affected.
