Family, friends gather for vigil in memory of pregnant shooting victim Ramona Solomon

Unexpected and unbearable —

That’s what friends say they’re feeling as they grieve the death of  25-year-old pregnant mother Ramona Solomon.

Friends and family members gathered at the park behind Jefferson Plaza Apartments on Thursday night, just blocks from where Solomon was shot, for a vigil.

Solomon’s family was too shaken up to speak on-camera, but Action News Jax Courtney Cole spoke to a friend who said she didn’t know of anyone who’d want to hurt Solomon.

It was an emotional evening at the park on Boulevard Street.

Family and friends gathered to share their last memories of a young woman they say they were proud to call a friend and sister.

Solomon was shot and killed on the basketball court at Julius Guinyard park on Sunday, June 24.

“It was devastating. It was unbelievable. It’s almost where ... we almost had to put our eyes on the situation to believe it,” said Ashavella Foster.

Foster, Solomon's friend of 10 years, says she was a sweet person with an unforgettable personality.

"Anything you asked her for ... she would give you the shirt off her back,” Foster told Action News Jax.

Foster says Solomon was prepared to do that and more for the baby girl she was expecting.

She was four months along in her pregnancy.

Right now, JSO says the investigation remains active.

On the incident report, there isn't much information listed about the suspect, except for his gender, which is listed a "male."

Dale Carson, our Action News Jax Law and Safety Expert says information is withheld by investigators for a good reason.

"In a case like the one you’re talking about, they don’t want facts to get out, merely because it contaminates everything the investigators are trying to accomplish,” Carson said.

Carson also says investigators keep information close to prevent someone else from trying to take  the rap for a crime they didn't commit.

While Solomon is no longer here with them, they say her spirit will keep them going until justice is served.

“As time goes on, we’re going to continue to stay strong and I know this is what she would want us to do,” said Foster.

Crimestoppers says, so far, they’ve received three tips.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crimestoppers at 866-845-TIPS.
