JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The White House is ordering every public school in the country to let transgender students use bathrooms and locker rooms that match their gender identities.
The move comes days after the Justice Department took legal action against North Carolina for its bathroom bill, which limits the use of public restrooms to the gender on a person's birth certificate.
Failure to comply would put the schools at risk of losing federal funding. The White House released specific guidelines on Friday.
