At approximately 7:32 a.m., FHP says a 23-year-old man from Orange Park was driving a GMC Sierra westbound in the left travel lane. For an unknown reason, the driver lost control and ran onto the left median. The driver then overcorrected and drove back onto the roadway across the westbound lanes.

The car began to spin before traveling onto the north grass shoulder of the interstate, where it hit a tree on the driver’s side. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.

FHP says the driver was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
