First Alert Weather Day Today: Strong to severe storms followed by widespread freeze forecast for the Jacksonville area

HERE’S WHAT FIRST ALERT CHIEF METEOROLOGIST MIKE BURESH SAYS YOU CAN EXPECT:

All severe thunderstorm warnings have expired.

  • Heavy rain & storms moved rapidly across the area late this afternoon and early this evening
  • Winds gusts were measured as high as 60 mph in some neighborhoods
  • Some trees down along with power outages

The Action News Jax First Alert Weather Team has issued a First Alert Weather Day for Thursday during the day and into the evening.

The First Alert Weather Team is tracking strong to severe storms with the possibility of an isolated tornado or two. We’ve been tracking this storm system for the past week now.

HERE’S WHAT FIRST ALERT CHIEF METEOROLOGIST MIKE BURESH SAYS YOU CAN EXPECT:

  • Mild weather Wednesday night, but with areas of fog developing
  • Breezy and warm Thursday. The First Alert Weather Team will be tracking a band of heavy showers and storms moving west to east mid-afternoon through the early evening.
  • From 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, storms are expected to move west to east. The Interstate 95 corridor and downtown Jacksonville will see impacts. Rain is expected in all parts of our viewing area for a while.
  • Potential for a few strong to severe storms -- the main threat is damaging winds, but an isolated tornado is possible.
  • There will be a major temperature crash Thursday night, but no snow or ice is expected.
  • Temperatures will go from 80 degrees Thursday afternoon to near 32 degrees by Christmas morning. A freeze watch is in effect early Friday for inland areas near and west of U.S. 301.
  • Widespread frost/freeze expected Friday night into early Saturday morning, including the beaches. We could see some of the coldest temperatures in a few winters.
