First Alert Weather: A windy and cool Sunday ahead

Here’s what the First Alert Weather Team said you can expect for the forecast:

  • This morning is windy with frequent gusts above 30 mph, especially along and east of I-95.
  • The wind is coming off the warm Atlantic, which is having a significant impact on temperatures this morning.
  • Coastal locations are near 70° with middle to upper 60s along the I-95 corridor. West of I-95 and north of I-10, temperatures are in the 50s. Across inland southeast Georgia, temperatures are in the upper 40s to lower 50s.
  • Wind will continue all day today with some gusts near/above 40 mph during the day. Highest gusts will be along the St. Johns River and local beaches.
  • A very high risk of rip currents is in effect in addition to life-threatening high surf. Buoys offshore our local coastline are showing 10 ft. wave heights and increasing.
  • Most areas will stay dry today with a mix of clouds and sunshine. Clouds will be more abundant across northeast Florida, with more sunshine for southeast Georgia.
  • With the strong onshore flow, a few light and brief showers can’t be ruled out, especially for St. Johns County.
  • Tonight will feature a similar temperature pattern as wind remains elevated.
  • Monday temperatures will start to rise some, but pleasant weather is expected to continue all week long. Coastal hazards of high surf and rip currents will continue, too.
