JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A juvenile boy was shot in the chest early Sunday after an argument that followed him and his friends from the Regency Mall area to a nearby business, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

Officers responded around 1:40 a.m. to the 700 block of Mill Creek Road on reports of a person shot, Sgt. Sembach of JSO’s Robbery and Violent Crime Unit said. Witnesses reportedly told officers the victim had been driven to a local hospital.

Officers then found the victim at the hospital with a single gunshot wound to the chest. JSO said his injury is listed as non-life-threatening.

It is believed the victim and his friends were hanging out near Regency Mall when two SUVs pulled up and their occupants began arguing with them, Sembach said.

The victim and his friends left but were followed to a business off Mill Creek Road, where the argument continued until a suspect in an SUV pulled out a firearm and shot the victim.

Both suspect vehicles were SUVs, one white and one red. The two groups did not know each other, Sembach said.

No additional suspect information has been provided at this time.
