#FluVaxJax: Community effort to get everyone vaccinated during a pandemic

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Flu season is just weeks away.

Action News Jax has teamed up with the Duval County Medical Society Foundation’s Flu Vax Jax initiative, a major new effort to make sure you and your family are informed about the importance of flu vaccines amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The goal is to avoid overburdening local hospitals this flu season in case we see a spike in coronavirus cases.

“As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, we must keep an eye out for the upcoming fall and winter months. We could potentially see another surge in COVID-19 and it would coincide with influenza season (October-March). This is typically a time of the year when hospitalizations increase and ICU bed utilization rises. If we add COVID-19 patients to the mix, we may see a point where our hospital systems are not able to add further patients which could then jeopardize the health of our region,” The DCMS Foundation stated.

Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry will make an announcement regarding the initiative at 9 a.m. on FOX30 and CBS47.
