Gator Bowl changes name and schedule

Gator Bowl

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The long standing tradition of the Gator Bowl is changing its name and the tradition of playing on New Year's Day.

Action Sports has learned the bowl agreed to a 6-year deal with Taxslayer.com and will rename the bowl game the Taxslayer Bowl.  The traditional January 1st game time in the afternoon is moving to Jan. 2nd.  The kickoff will be in the evening.  After two years, the game will move to Dec. 30 in primetime.

It's a move that should benefit the former Gator Bowl in terms of viewership and they hope in terms of economic impact on the city because of attendance at games.

The college football landscape is changing with beginning of a football playoff this coming season.
