Another student arrested at Robert E. Lee High School for bringing gun to school

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Robert E. Lee High School in Riverside is the focus of yet another gun investigation after a student brought a loaded weapon to school.

"I was just like dang this is the second time I heard about it this year," said student Shaheed Clayborn.

Last month, a 15-year-old female student was also arrested for having a loaded handgun in her locker.

Duval Schools superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti sent Action News Jax this statement regarding Tuesday's incident:

"As a result of a student tip about a possible weapon on campus, Duval County School Police and school administration immediately conducted a search at Robert E. Lee High School earlier today. During the search, a student was taken into custody due to possession of a loaded gun. Duval County School Police immediately confiscated the gun to ensure the campus was safe. But students said they're not surprised this happened today.

"I've been going here since my ninth grade year; a lot of things happen," said student Jaleel Everson.

Parents like Cathy Manasco said the school called her about the incident. She said while her son likes the school, the thought of another student with a loaded gun on campus concerns her.

"It still worries you to know that this could happen and he still has three more years to go," said Manasco

The school police are investigating where the student got the gun and what made the student bring it to school. School administrators have also sent a letter to parents urging them to speak with their children and keep an eye on what they bring to school.

Not only could the student in question face a criminal charge but also possible expulsion from the school.
