Gun-toting robbery suspect behind bars thanks to technology

Glynn County Police arrested Lewis Powers, 32, and charged him with home invasion, burglary, felony theft and other charges.

"I look up and there's as gentleman standing over my bed and he has the gun pointed straight at my face," said Pamela Garcia, who didn’t try to fight back.

"I put my hands up and said, 'Take whatever you want. Just let me know what is it, and I'll get it for you,'" she said.

Garcia said he took her car keys and cellphone, and then tried to take off.

"I went to the door and opened the door and I heard the gun go off," Garcia said.

She said he seemed frustrated because he couldn’t figure out how to start her car.

"So you have to swipe the keys up under the dashboard or it won't crank at all," she said.

So Garcia said she helped him. "We got it cranked. I just wanted him away from me and my children is all," she said.

But his getaway only lasted about 20 minutes. "We were able to locate the phone exactly where it was at," Garcia said.

Garcia logged into her Google account to track the phone. Police said they found her car abandoned at an intersection, about three miles away.

One of their dogs then tracked Powers just down the road, sitting on a front porch.

Investigators said Powers also broke into another home that same day in the same neighborhood and stole a gun, but they aren’t sure if it’s the same gun he pointed at Garcia.
