‘I hope every day you are miserable' Lavert Durden's family says to person of interest

Family members of 28-year-old Lavert Durden are seeking closure. St. Johns county deputies say Durden was shot and killed after an argument one week ago.

The incident happened on Christopher Street and Aiken Street in West Augustine. “It was not right the way my nephew's life was taken away from him!” said Frankie Durden Williams, Durden’s Aunt.

His aunt and mother spoke only to Action News Jax prior to a viewing held for Durden this evening.

They say they want person of interest Brandon Calloway to come forward. Calloway was one of two persons of interest alongside Traevon Watson. Watson was located about one week ago.

“And I hope every day you are miserable,” said April Sherman, Durden’s Mother. “When you want to eat I hope you can't. When you want to sleep, I hope you won't. Until you turn yourself in.”

Nearly two years ago to the day of Lavert's murder, Durden's cousin, Charles "Juvie" Durden and his friend Stefon Larry were shot, killed and burned in a vehicle in 2016.

Through the pain, the family remains hopeful police will locate Calloway.

“Stop running, son,” said Williams. “Because sooner or later, you will be caught!” Family members were gathering one week ago to honor Juvie's life. Later they received the news of Lavert Durden’s death.

Anyone with information in the case is encouraged to contact the St. Johns County Sheriff’s office.
