Interchange improvement project at Butler Boulevard to begin construction Nov. 7

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Department of Transportation will begin breaking ground on a large interchange improvement project at Butler Boulevard (State Road 202) and Kernan Boulevard.

The Southeast Jacksonville road improvement project will begin on Monday, Nov. 7.

The $17.1 million project will include:

  • Construction of a partial cloverleaf interchange.
  • Adding capacity to on-ramps and off-ramps.
  • Construction of a shared-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists.
  • Milling and resurfacing of existing pavement on Butler Boulevard, Kernan Boulevard and ramps.
  • Construction of ponds and other drainage improvements.
  • Roadway lighting upgrades.
  • Installation of new signage and mast arm signals.

The project is expected to be completed in late 2024, weather and unforeseen circumstances permitting.

Multiple Detours Planned for Next Week at the I-10 Widening Project

More closed roads and detours are planned as part of FDOT’s Interstate 10 from Interstate 295 to Interstate 95 widening project.

I-10 West to Roosevelt Boulevard: Thursday, Nov. 3 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., drivers who wish to take the Roosevelt Boulevard (U.S. Route 17) exit will be detoured to the McDuff Avenue exit and then left on McDuff to reconnect with U.S. 17.

Cassat Avenue to I-10 East On-Ramp: Monday, Oct. 31 through Thursday, Nov. 3 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., drivers who wish to take the Cassat Avenue to the I-10 east on-ramp will be detoured via Cassat Avenue to either Highway Avenue to Luna Street to connect with I-10, or Lenox Avenue to Luna Street to connect with I-10.

Luna Street to I-10 East On-Ramp: Sunday, Oct. 30 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., drivers who wish to take the Luna Street to I-10 east on-ramp will be detoured via Luna Street to Lenox Avenue, to Highway Avenue, to McDuff Avenue to connect with I-10; or via Luna Street to Rayford Avenue, to McDuff Avenue to connect with I-10.

Luna Street Detour: Sunday, Oct. 30 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., Luna Street will be closed at I-10. Drivers will be detoured via Highway Avenue to Edgewood Avenue, to Lenox Avenue to reconnect with Luna Street; or via Lenox Avenue to Edgewood Avenue, to Highway Avenue to reconnect with Luna Street.

The $174.5 million widening project is expected to be completed in early 2025.
