‘It’s devastating,’ say neighbors after deadly crash killing young person near Nocatee

Nocatee, Fla. — One person is dead following an early morning single-vehicle crash, according to the Jacksonville Sherriff’s Office.

At 3:25 a.m. two young adults were involved in a crash near the intersection of Cross Town Drive and Preservation Trail near Nocatee.

Neighbor and mother, Jescia Rivera, spoke to Action News Jax about the deadly crash.

“Obviously it’s devastating,” said Rivera.

Neighbors told Action News Jax they’ve been concerned about speeding on Preservation Trail for years.

Police say the vehicle went off the road and crashed into the woods.

The passenger died as a result of their injuries. The driver was not hurt, officials said.

JSO could not provide the gender or age of the young adults involved at this time. The cause of the crash in under investigation.

There is no impact to traffic, but drivers are asked to be cautious because of police activity in the area.
