Jacksonville family devastated after losing their dogs and home in fire

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A family is without a home and has lost their two dogs after a fire, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department said. The Red Cross is now helping two adults and two children.

Action News Jax reporter Beth Rousseau is at the fire, and she spoke with the mother who lived in the home.

The mother, Stephanie Clark, told Rousseau that she is grateful her children, who are 4 and 9 years old, made it out safely.

The Clark told Rousseau that she is devastated her dogs have died and the family's belongings are gone.

Clark described, "I don't even remember. I just tried to put a fire out, but it was too big and I just started screaming fire and I grabbed my phone and it was dead, so I couldn't call 911. Luckily, somebody seen it and called."

"I don't even have words, I'm just glad every is okay," Clark said. "I've worked 18-hour shifts for months to be able to get this house. We stayed in a crappy hotel for a while to be able to save up. Now, everything I have is gone."
