Jacksonville Humane Society launches name your price adoption event

Jacksonville Humane Society (Jacksonville Humane Society)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Humane Society is holding a “Name Your Price” adoption event running Aug. 10 through Friday, Aug. 14. The promotion allows community members to set their own adoption fee for dogs and cats as students head back to school.

The shelter is currently caring for a large volume of animals, making community adoptions critical to opening up shelter space. Under the event’s payment model, adopters can choose to pay $5, $50, $100 or whatever amount they comfortably choose, with proceeds directly supporting animal care.

All animals available during the event are spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated, allowing them to go home with adopters on the same day. Adopters remain responsible for potential additional costs, including city rabies licensing fees and equipment such as leashes, collars or cat carriers.

Lawrence Nicolas serves as the chief executive officer of the Jacksonville Humane Society. He noted that the back-to-school season provides a timely opportunity for local families to welcome pets into their households.

“While families are shopping for backpacks and preparing for a new school year, we’re hoping they’ll also consider adding a new member to the family,” Nicolas said. “Every adoption creates space for another animal in need and gives a deserving pet the chance to begin a brand-new chapter.”
