Jacksonville man wins $1 million playing scratch-off game

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Lottery said Tuesday that a Duval County man claimed a $1 million prize from the Gold Rush Limited scratch-off game.

Christopher Njenga, 55, of Jacksonville, chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $795,000.00. He purchased his winning ticket from a Publix on Normandy Boulevard, lottery officials say. The retailer will receive a $2,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.

Last week alone, two people in our area won big playing the lottery. A Jacksonville man won $1 million after matching all five of the white ball numbers in the Mega Millions drawing. The next day a 37-year-old woman from Middleburg won $1 million on the 500X The Cash scratch-off game.
