ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Several areas of St. Augustine saw flooding on Saturday as Hurricane Isaias’ outer bands stretched inland.
Action News Jax observed some of the worst flooding in St. Augustine’s Historic District, though videos shared online showed water covering roadways in multiple neighborhoods.
While traveling into St. Augustine around 4:30 p.m., Action News Jax saw cars driving through pools of standing water. They sent water spraying across roadways as drivers navigated flooded streets.
Action News Jax’s First Alert Weather Team says many areas have received more than a foot of rain so far this month.
In parts of the Historic District, floodwaters appeared to be roughly eight inches deep. Cars moving through the area created waves that washed toward sidewalks with each pass.
Despite the flooding, some visitors said the conditions were not enough to derail their plans.
“We just love, you know, walking through tide pools,” said Josh D’Amor, who’s vacationing in St. Augustine with his wife. “We’ve just been making sure I don’tsee a gator pop up or anything like that.”
Social media videos highlighted some of the challenges drivers faced through other parts of the city.
One Facebook video recorded Friday night at Sunset Grille in St. Augustine Beach showed a man attempting to move his car after becoming stuck in floodwater along State Route A1A.
Doug Willis, who lives about a half-mile from the area, said conditions around his neighborhood were also severe.
“Our backyard did have water up over the ankles, and the street behind us, they flooded up to your knee,” Willis said.
Action News Jax will continue monitoring floodwaters, which are expected to recede as Post-tropical Cyclone Isaias continues to move north and the area begins to dry out.>>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<<
