Suspect shoots and kills resident in Wesconnett area, police say

Jacksonville, Fla. — UPDATED 11:28 a.m. on 7/8/22- The prime suspect has been identified as 38-yer-old Keith Bernard Hubbard. He is charged with attempted murder and three counts of battery on a law enforcement officer. The case is still active meaning further charges are pending at this time.

ORIGINAL STORY:

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a man firing shots near 6200 Pernecia Street killed another person on Thursday. The shooting appeared to be random, JSO says.

Police responded around 9 a.m. after receiving calls that shots were fired near the woods.

They determined that the victim, who has not been identified, left their residence to see who was firing shots and they were shot and killed.

Another resident attempted to interact with the man from inside their home and the man fired shots at the home, police say. The resident was unharmed.

JSO found the man five yards into the woods with the help of its K-9. The man was armed with a rifle.

The K-9 caught the man who tried to fight by striking the dog. Officers used a taser on the man after he continued to fight and would not be handcuffed.

The man was then taken to a hospital for surgery. He is in critical but stable condition, police say.

He is charged with murder, attempted murder, and three counts of battery on an officer including on a K-9.

The man has no criminal history, JSO says, and it does not believe he knew any of the victims.

Action News Jax’s Meghan Moriarty spoke with a man whose son was inside the home when bullets were fired at it.

He said someone started shooting at the house early Thursday.

His son hid in the bathtub to avoid being hit.
