Man visiting female friend in Empire Point area shot by her ex-boyfriend, police investigating

A 6-month-old girl has died after she was found at an unlicensed daycare in Nashville, Tennessee, Thursday afternoon.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported a man visiting a female friend in the Empire Point area of Jacksonville was shot by her ex-boyfriend in the Empire Point area early Saturday.

According to JSO, at around 2:40 a.m., Officers responded to the 4800 block of Atlantic Blvd. about an adult man who had been shot.

Initial investigations by JSO revealed that the victim was reportedly visiting a female friend and had fallen asleep at her residence. While sleeping, the victim was allegedly awakened by the female’s ex-boyfriend, who was armed with a handgun.

In a state of fear, the victim fled from the residence, and during the escape, two shots were reportedly fired, resulting in the victim being struck once in the hip.

The victim was later transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Detectives from JSO responded to the scene, where they interviewed witnesses and collected video surveillance footage.

While a person of interest has been identified, they have not been detained at this time.
